Area Information

Since the mid-1800s, Clifton has been a center for Norwegian culture in the middle of Texas. Located in Bosque County, we celebrate our heritage every year through numerous festivals and every day in the historical properties you can see and visit throughout our region. Clifton is served by State Highway 6.

The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway built a station a mile south of Clifton in 1880. Merchants moved their businesses closer to the railroad station, and the town soon thrived as a business and trade center. Clifton also served as the county seat between 1890 and 1892. The community was incorporated in 1901.

Average high temperatures reach 97 degrees in late July/early August and average lows only drop to 32 degrees in January.  Precipitation averages 2.9 inches monthly and there is only 1.2 inches of average snowfall annually.

4 public schools provide education to local students ranging from kindergarten through the end of high school. Higher education is offered by McLennan Community College, Baylor University, Texas State Technical College - Waco, University of Mary Hardin - Baylor, Temple College and Central Texas College. All of these institutions are located within 50 miles of town.

Goodall Witcher Healthcare Foundation serves the local health care needs.

Water recreation is abundant in Bosque County thanks to the Bosque and Brazos rivers as well as Lake Whitney. Head out on your boat, canoe or kayak. Enjoy fishing for many varieties of bass, catfish, crappie, sunfish and more. Swim in fresh waters or hike along the nearby trails. You can do it all here.

It's a short drive to Meridian State Park, a haven for nature lovers and fishing enthusiasts. The park's 72-acre lake offers fishing, swimming and no-wake boating. The hiking trail circling Lake Meridian features limestone outcroppings with fossils, a scenic overlook and aquatic vegetation. Birdwatching is excellent and there is a good chance of seeing the rare Golden-cheeked Warbler.

Clifton celebrates its Norwegian heritage each year with the Norwegian Country Christmas Tour, held the first Saturday of December. The daylong event features demonstrations of Norwegian crafts, tours of homes and buildings harking back to the days of the early settlers, and many other related activities.

There's a lot more to experience and enjoy in Clifton and the Bosque County region. Contact us today to learn more about the area and the properties we have available. We'll help you discover the home of your dreams.
